I think it would be amazing if swaybg could add video file support for looping background videos, this could add a tremendous amount of value for users.

Suggested formats might include MKV and MP4.

Sorry, this is out of scope for swaybg. Other background program (e.g. mpvpaper) should be able to provide this feature.
