Use frontmatter defaults for Jekyll #636

GitHub just upgraded their GitHub Pages Jekyll to 2.2. Front-matter defaults look pretty cool, and will probably allow us to drop most of our YAML front-matter. I don't have time to write up a pull request implementing this now, but thought I'd post an issue with the news in case someone else does ;).

Build issue - we'll deal with this as part of exploding the repo.

We are using Pandoc and for that I'm closing this.
