Screwdriver metaphor doesn't work #106

many competent and productive researchers who have used version control in earnest believe that using it for managing papers and data is like using the back end of a screwdriver to hammer in a nail.

The argument is that the tool (version control) is too complex for the task. The metaphor doesn't really say that I think. Using a sledgehammer to hammer in a nail would be better. Does the English language have a more appropriate metaphor?
