Gauge the audience

I found it very helpful both times I presented the material to poll the audience to find out how many attendees:

• used software written by others in their research
• used software they wrote themselves in their research
• had formal training in computer programming
• had formal training in software development/engineering

I didn't give this a dedicated slide. Does it deserve one?
