The slides currently provide very little "hook" to connect with the audience or motivate the discussion. Paired with "gauging the audience", I found it helpful to make the following points.
Scientific disciplines across the board are becoming more data intensive.
As a result, they depend more on software for modeling, simulation, data analysis, and data management.
In many disciplines, few scientists have any formal training in computer programming. Most are self-taught.
There is more to a research software project than just code. There's:
data
organization
communication
process
In this presentation we will discuss what a scientific research software project needs to achieve its goals. (Will tie in nicely to What does "done" look like? i.e. what are the goals?)
In the latest version of my slides I had a slide, even before the roadmap, that looked like this.
**Research software is more than just code**
- Data
- Organization
- Communication
- Process
I don't know whether this is the best place for it, but I think it's valuable.
