Notes:

This branch solely addresses migration to Swift 3 and changes to the codebase were made to accomodate this migration.

Further changes to the codebase are outside the scope of this pull request.

@g-ackt Thanks for sharing this - would you be able to look at the other Swift 3 update pull requests and see how your approach differs? Ideally we should get this to Swift 3 for the next point release.

I have picked a working fork I knew with Swift 3 support and merged that in #68 -- thanks for your contribution back in the day! 🙌 If I missed something cool you did, please create a PR for the changes based off of master.
