Good art is an impression open to interpretation. Personally, I see a resemblance to both swallow and swift and associate it with the goal of versatility. Then again, if we are to talk about biology, the real deal is far more hairy than the deliberately contrasting barn swallow & common swift, as always in evolution. There are species of swallow that look just like true swifts on images and vice versa, let alone if you turn those images into such icons, shape them according to certain design principles, and add a bit of flair.
Anyway, I would be surprised if the open source project had any jurisdiction over the design of the Swift icon. If anything, the website repository could be a better place for this report.
