Training mode #371

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

While exercising many wants to keep certain parameters within defined interval
in order to achieve some goals. For example, if I want to burn fats then I have
to keep my HR between 60 and 70% of max HR (in attachment you can see table
from Wikipedia on exercise zones). If during exercise my HR is below 60 or
above 70% I will not have results I'm expecting. For others it could be crucial
to keep speed or pace in certain interval.

So, it would be great to have "Training mode" in which user will define HR,
speed or pace interval he wants to stuck to during exercise. User would have to
choose one of those three, and not to pick all three or combination of two
parameters. Voice announcements in that case would be issued when defined
parameter is off the limits. Still voice announcements should also keep
informing person in regular time or distance intervals defined by user
(issue#96).

Maybe could be done as a separate app?

Well, idea is to get real time feedback, e.g. while I train I want voice
guidance and onscreen info so I know if my heart rate fall below or exceeds
aimed heart rate interval so I can push up or slow down tempo, so it would be
convenient to be part of My Tracks rather then separate app. There are many
other tracking apps doing this.

I'm not sure what are you trying to achieve with My Tracks. If idea is that My
Tracks only log data then it's more less ok just as it is right now. But if it
ought to be #1 tracking apps for Android (what I would really like) then it
should contain much more options to help users not only track data, but also to
analyse it and help them adjust training to personal needs. Just look at the
Endomondo, Sport Tracks Live, Sporty Pal... None of them is perfect, but
combining good features from those can result in The Tracking Application.

From what I've read 'mytracks' wants to do collecting data, and then share the
data with other apps on your android phone. (There is an example app in the
code). These apps could then visualize the recorded data for special purposes,
or shout at you that you have to run faster. :) Another example (in another
bug) is that people want mytracks to compute the calories burned (and probably
merge that with the mytracks info gathered).

I think this request belongs here... I would like to see MyTracks add training
support for interval running. By this I mean the ability for a user to define
an internal running schedule and then receive voice notifications to tell the
runner when to run fast or slow and for how long. Currently I'm running
RunKeeper (for the interval voice coaching feature) alongside MyTracks, but
managing both apps at the same time is a bit cumbersome.

Hi. I do not think that this issue is well named; it should be called heart
rate zones.

It would be great if you could set heart rate zones and also trigger
announcements when changing zones; this feature should be kept as simple as
possible (i.e. forget about the requests for setting training targets, just
provide recording with real-time feedback).

A lot of the 'sports' apps aim to provide training targets and programmes
whereas, through a clean interface, My Tracks users look for real time feedback
and data to analyse when finished; adding this would be a significant
enhancement.

Hello, just a quick follow up as the first response suggests running a
different app. I have a Polar iWL and tried to use Heart Rate Monitor for
Polar (https://market.android.com/details?id=HRnavi.HRnavigator) but it can't
seem to connect to the HRM when MyTracks is receiving data from it. In short
using a separate app for training zones doesn't work so please consider adding
heart rate zones (with announcements) as requested above!

Dear All,

After just using mytracks for 4 days, I really love it. Although the heartrate
target zone (and possible speed zone) on audio feedback would be awesom!

I don't know if there are already plans of implementing this, or that there is
a way for me to do it (and share)?

Greetz,
vince
