Freezing and stuttered scroll when using helm/lsp-mode #14788

Closed gf3 closed 3 years ago

gf3 commented 3 years ago

Description :octocat:

Scrolling (i.e. holding j or k) is unbearably slow when using lsp-mode and helm. Originally I thought it was due to lsp-mode, however after profiling it seems that the issue is spacemancs/helm-M-x-fuzzy-matching. Which is odd because the only keys I'm pressing are j, k, g, and G (see GIF).

A profile is included below, but as you can see helm seems to be the main culprit:

Reproduction guide :beetle:

LSP Config (see end for full .spacemacs config)

  ;; LSP
  (setq-default dotspacemacs-configuration-layers
                '((lsp :variables lsp-lens-enable t
                                  lsp-use-lsp-ui t
                                  lsp-idle-delay 0.500
                                  lsp-rust-server 'rust-analyzer
                                  )))

Observed behaviour: :eyes: :broken_heart: Stuttered scrolling, freezing.

In this recording I am actually holding down j/k and as you can see the cursor/line is not changing:

Peek 2021-05-21 14-05

Expected behaviour:   Smooth scrolling.

Note that this same behaviour is not experienced when running emacs from the terminal. It's fast and responsive:

I just swapped out helm for ivy and the issue persists:

I've also discovered that this only happens when I hold down j/k if I hit the keys very quickly scrolling occurs as expected.

lebensterben commented 3 years ago

cannot reproduce.

lebensterben commented 3 years ago

when you move the cursor several things can happen:

If you've enabled font ligatures yourself, they will break.

gf3 commented 3 years ago

@lebensterben it might have something to do with rust-mode since the same same behaviour persists when i disable lsp-mode

lebensterben commented 3 years ago

I mainly code in Rust and I've never seen this problem.

gf3 commented 3 years ago

so i've just tried it with the default spacemacs config with the only change being the addition of the rust layer and it still happens. could this be emacs itself?

lebensterben commented 3 years ago

you can try RLS or a different version of rust-analyzer in case rust-analyzer breaks it.

gf3 commented 3 years ago

i've just uninstalled emacs-pygtk-native-comp and instead installed the latest git emacs and recompiled all my packages and the problem seems to be fixed. thank you for your help
