Sylpheed already is a portable application and can store its configuration and data at whatever location the user desires. You can specify it via the configdir
option in sylpheed.ini
or the --configdir
command-line option of the Sylpheed executable. Furthermore, you can customise the location of individual mail folders by editing folderlist.xml
inside the configuration directory. Make sure, however, to quit Sylpheed first, and to have backup files at hand in case you break anything.
@chaoyuyan I recommend that you change the subject of this issue to something like Running Sylpheed as a portable application — to reflect your actual question.
I recently reset my system without backing up my data and encountered some issues when trying to recover my emails. I was wondering if it would be possible to implement a feature similar to Foxmail, where data is stored directly in the installation directory or to add a portable version option. I’m not sure if this suggestion has been made before, as I am new to using this email client. I think this would be a great addition and would greatly improve efficiency.
