Not compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. upgrading 10.5.x to 10.6 will produce a kext error asking for an update
2.

Strangely, I installed Airfoil which can install soundflower optionally, and
soundflower worker under 10.6 when installed that way... (though soundflowerbed
wasn't included)

I also found it worked under 10.6 when installed by Audio Hijack Pro (also by 
Rogue Amoeba)

Launch A.H.Pro/Menu Bar_App.Name/Install Extras/Soundflower.

This will install .kext extension, in my case v.1.3, but NOT Soundflowerbed!
In order to get the above: Download Soundflower itself from the web, the 
current version is 1.4.3.
Launch Installer, but choose to install only "Soundflowerbed", NOT 
"Soundflower". Enjoy your working little 
app. on 10.6!!!
I believe the problem dwells within the very .kext v.1.4.3 file which isn't 
recognised by 10.6.

Can we skip the Audio Hijack thing?
Try downloading the whole SoundFlower package, BUT the old version 1.3, install 
everything it and report.

I found the issue. Nothing complicated, just a simple file ownership issue;

/System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) 
authentication failure (file ownership/permissions); check the system/kernel 
logs for errors or try 
kextutil(8).

/System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext has problems:
Authentication Failures: 
    File owner/permissions are incorrect (must be root:wheel, nonwritable by group/other): 
        /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext/Contents/Info.plist
        /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext/Contents/MacOS/Soundflower
        /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext/Contents/Resources/Soundflower.xcconfig

So, by running 'chown root' and 'chgrp wheel' etc, I now (appear to anyway, 
just about to test and make sure everything ACTUALLY works) have a running 
Soundflower 1.4.3 
install on 10.6. I guess this explains why the Rogue Amoeba software packages 
work, because they installed SF differently. Either way, this should be simple 
to package into the 
installer's scripts.

I can now manually load soundflower after changing my permissions, but when I 
reboot,
I need to kextload again.

How do we get it to load automatically now?

So far so good. Installed without issue. No .kext warning on reboot. Apps and 
system can see it . Not yet a trial 
by fire but I have a hunch you've got it.

When I did an upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, I, too, noticed the kext 
error;
however, even after getting the Snow Leopard compatibility update, I still had 
issues
with Soundflower. It was giving me the same kext error, and today, it told me I
didn't even have Soundflower installed (even though the Airfoil Extras window 
said it
was).

Today, I finally just downloaded Soundflower from the web, used the uninstall 
script,
and reinstalled it.  Now things work just fine.

Hmm. I just installed 1.5.1 from the site, and the kext seemed to have the right
permissions, however the /Applications/Soundflower folder did not.

They were both set to readable only by the owner, and oddly they were set to the
username of another administrator on this system. I had to chown -R root:wheel
/Applications/Soundflower and chmod -R 755 /Applications/Soundflower to get it
working properly.

Soundflower 1.5.2 Crashes every 3 mins of being active.

Issue 1: If sound flower (Motu) is processing a signal (itunes, FCP, etc) 
signal will crash resulting in a constant "buzz" similar to a continual 
electric shock.  Fix: Restart.

Issue 2: Soundflower requires restart if idle with no signal for 3 mins.

Restart: The restart process has been narrowed down to simply re-clicking the 
MOTU option in the Soundflower Drop-down Menu.

the same thing is happening to me using Ableton and Traktor with an Kontrol S4 
as the audio out card.  Is there a fix other than restarting Soundflower?  I am 
using SnowLeopard 10.6.8 and soundflower 1.5.2.

I downloaded Soundflower 1.5.2 from code.google.com and installed onto my Mac 
OS X 10.6.8.  The resulting "Soundflower" folder in my Applications group would 
not show me its content.  It displayed as a folder icon with a little red - 
through it.  I performed the two operations (prefacing both with sudo) 
mentioned in comment 14 and it seems to work now.  (
