That would be more than welcome. But it's a bit out of scope...
FYI. Currently Sympa provides following features:
use_html_editor
and html_editor_url
parameters in sympa.conf
to integrate javascript-based WYSIWYG editors, e.g. TinyMCE, NicEDIT.They are not so user-friendly, but users may (logically) compose and deliver impressive HTML e-mails using them.
hello,
can you please open this discussion to the community (sympa-users and/or sympa-fr)? i agree the current situation is more than perfectible but i don't understand the goals you try to achieve.
If there is any interest by the Sympa Community for such a feature, I probably could provide decent mockups for this.
of course: it's an interesting topic and i really would ear the community about it.
regards. marc

Marc, I don't think we should recommend to use sympa-fr for discussion of this idea.
The goal is clear to me - to compete with the commercial solutions.

And they might look really ugly in mail clients with decrepit HTML support.
We actually use this feature, by saving a web page through Firefox (or similar browser) and upload the created file. Sympa is smart enough to embed the pictures into the email.

Expected Behavior
The newsletters delivered by Sympa should look nice and engaging.
Current Behavior
On one hand, people subscribed to sympa lists generally receive ugly emails. On the other hand, people willing to create lists tend to prefer to use proprietary services like mailjet and mailchimp. No free software I am aware of can compete with those.
Possible Solution
If there is any interest by the Sympa Community for such a feature, I probably could provide decent mockups for this.
Context
Nonprofit organization often need to send regular newsletters. Alas, the produced output is either plain text or quite ugly html. Nothing to make the recipient want to actually read the newsletter.
That would be very welcome IMHO.

you're right! sorry about that but mathieu is obviously french, i try to make people confortable.

what to do about it ? that's why i expected a discussion with a larger audience.

If you talk on -fr about support issues that's acceptable to me, but general discussions would leave out the whole !fr speaking community and especially our most prolific contributor.
I really would like to see a few samples from @mjourdan, even if we don't integrate them into the Sympa core they could serve as starting point for Sympa users.
IMHO we discussed too much things in the past to death - I would rather see some action :-).
But @mjourdan, please feel free to carry this over to the mailing list.

If you don’t prefer to English, please use your preferred language. The others will try to read it if they feel it is worth to understand. Anyway please stop off-topic.

Could you please present your mockup? Honestly I feel current feature of Sympa is far from what satisfys users.
The issue title was quite evasive, thus I renamed it to avoid confusions. I think discussions lists and archives management are a bit off-topic here and should be treated in separate issues.
I feel that if I have to provide mockups, they should be made for the new UI. Is implementing mockups from the sympa-design still planned? As I can't use Sketch, could someone export the wireframes?
Anyway, before making any mockup, please find below some examples of what I had in mind. I put this here so I can edit posts if necessary. As suggested, I'll link to here on sympa-users.
Edit: I found out the link to the preview of sandhose's mockups, so wireframes are not absolutely necessary.
This definitely would be nice to have. Though, while not directly related, to allow Sympa to be used for more announcement-like stuff, #207 would also need to be addressed, ideally.
Here are some rough wireframes to illustrate the idea:
I am very interested in such a project and will help when able.
So… One person offered to help when able (thanks!), but those feature proposal and mockup didn't bring much enthusiasm it seems.
One more round: any feedback or comments you would like to do, Sympa community?
Hello, Secours populaire français is very much interested in this feature. But I fear we have no skills nor time to help... :(
Hey there, I am new to GitHub and have no experience in programming (yet), but I would be very interested: Has this feature been developed in the meantime? I am now responsible for my university's newsletters which are currently sent via Sympa (a layouted pdf attached to the e-mail) and would be glad to make it prettier...
@callmefritzi as far as I am aware, nothing happened on this side.
@mjourdan thank you for your answer! @ikedas suggested the feature to post html-pages via the list, does anyone have experience how well this is working for practically untrained users?
also, the problem might be programs like outlook which block the display of html alltogether, so this might be affected, too, i guess?
Any news on this ? Tired of commercial solution.
@mjourdan showed us a mockup. We are waiting for someone to work to make it real.
