testsuites license is unclear #7

What license will be used for these testsuites?

Add relevant links/info to README.md and to CONTRIBUTION.md

martap commented 11 years ago

@seanlong We plan to push those test to W3C and if they accept it, then it will be under this license: http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Legal/2008/04-testsuite-copyright.html

If you want to use it, go ahead, however this is not w3c official test suite yet so it might change. I do not want to put license here since I want people to use w3c test suites, this repo is only for internal purposes. When test suite is ready we will push it to w3c.

I'll try to push those tests this week and we will see how it goes.

@martap Got it, thanks.

updated bug description.

@marcoscaceres I've change it - can I put tests under MIT? or should I put it under different licence?

marcoscaceres commented 10 years ago

We need to use the W3C license. We need to ask @tobie how to do that (he has a simple document, but I'm on a plane right now… ).

1) At the root of your repository add a CONTRIBUTING.md file with the following content (CONTRIBUTING.md files have magic properties):

Grant of License
----------------

By contributing to this repository, you and the company you represent, if the
company holds any copyrights in the contribution, grant to the W3C a perpetual,
non-exclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under all of your
copyrights in this contribution to copy, publish, use, and modify the
contribution and to distribute the contribution under a BSD License or one with
more restrictive terms, as well as a right and license of the same scope to any
derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on or incorporating all or part
of the contribution. You further agree that any derivative works of this
contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.

You state, to the best of your knowledge, that you, or the company you
represent, have all rights necessary to contribute the materials.

W3C will retain attribution of initial authorship to you. The W3C makes no
a-priori commitment to support or distribute contributions.

Disclaimer
----------

All content from this repository is provided as is, and W3C makes no
representations or warranties, express or implied, including, but not limited
to, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose,
non-infringement, or title; nor that the contents of this repository are
suitable for any purpose. We make no representations, express or implied, that
the content of this repository or the use thereof indicates conformance to a
specification. All content is provided as-is to help reach interoperability.

2) Reference this file from within your README.md file, e.g.:

Absolutely everyone is welcome (and even encouraged) to contribute to test
development, so long as you fulfill the contribution requirements detailed
in the [Contributing Guidelines](./CONTRIBUTING.md). No test is too small or too
simple, especially if it corresponds to something for which you've noted an
interoperability bug in a browser.

3) You're welcome to Cc me on the pull request (though you don't have to).

martap commented 10 years ago

@tobie thank you for your help. I did not used pull request for this :( - unfortunately (I've check your point 3 after I pushed it on the server).

I would be grateful if you could take a look on my commit: https://github.com/sysapps/testsuites/commit/4cc54b38427e98b0ad2820a6dd166691bae21e28 or files:

I've fixed up the README.md file.
