Thanks to FIDO we have standards like U2F using hardware security, these protocols include things that can be displayed on a screen in order to verify the information.
For example if you authorize a transaction, the screen would show you the amount for example. This screen would be directly connected to the security chip, not the OS.
Having a small extra screen and hardware button would be a huge increase in security and thanks to WebAuthn its well integrated into the Web and in addition to the web it could also be used boot security.
There are also already a lot of open hardware and software implementation for many of these parts. Solo Key, Precurser for example.
