Why/User Benefit/User Problem

Good input devices is paramount to making a device wonderful to use. You can have the best specs ever in a laptop and have it working flawlessly, but the user will still be unhappy if it is unpleasant to interface with.

The touchpad is also important, but given that many people will use a Bluetooth mouse, it is somewhat forgivable if the trackpad is serviceable rather than excellent.

Description of the feature

A good typing experience is paramount. I would argue that the keyboard is one of the more important aspects of any laptop. It should provide some amount of user feedback, or "spring," and be generally pleasant to type on for several hundred words per day. Island-style keys are OK so long as they react appropriately.

Touchpads should be multi-touch, large enough to comfortably use, and should feature good palm rejection. Pop!_OS would also be well-served to have the palm rejection sensitivity tweakable in the OS itself.

I wholeheartedly agree! Personally, I care even more about the touchpad then the keyboard, especially on non-touchscreen devices. The touchpad quality of the current lineup is usable, but not quite up to the level MacBooks and XPSs. A top-of-the-line touchpad would be a big selling point for me.
