spgrass6 to be archived on CRAN #2

Open rsbivand opened 2 years ago

rsbivand commented 2 years ago

GRASS 6 was last released about 8 years ago, and spgrass6 is very outdated. If you still need GRASS, please move to rgrass7 immediately, as spgrass6 will be archived very soon.

rsbivand commented 11 months ago

@syunhong spgrass6 was archived last year, and rgrass7 and rgdal were archived three days ago so please do move to submit an updated version of seg as soon as possible. See https://github.com/r-spatial/evolution https://r-spatial.github.io/evolution/ for details. rgrass is the current GRASS interface, and uses terra, not rgdal.

I see that @sjewo has a fork with more recent commits, replacing spgrass with rgrass. Could it be a solution to take over from there and transition seg to sf? @syunhong @DOsull, are there any plans for upgrading seg from your side?

Hi,

I haven't worked on this package for a long time, but if this is still in use for anyone, I can update it to make it with sf and resubmit by the end of this month.

Awesome! Without seg there isn't any package that does the Reardon and O'Sullivan spatial indices using R. The other one, OasisR depended on seg. It would save my research if you could update it.

Okay, I will fix the issue by the end of this month latest..

@syunhong Thanks! I think quite a number of researchers and course instructors will be very grateful. If you need help, please reach out to those mentioned in this thread.

@syunhong Thank you for working on this. I see that you made come commits to the repository. Is the package working after these? Is there anything else that needs to be done before seg is available again on CRAN? I could help with coding if it is in R and not very advanced. Cheers Guilherme
