I always get frustrated by people who say they don't like soduko because they 
don't like number puzzles! I often convert puzzles into alpha for these 
people, How about incorporating an alpha mode in open soduko? using A-I 
instead of 1-9. If you were to implement this you could go further and allow 
for any palette of icons/glyphs including coloured dots, Greek or even 
hieroglyphics! (dare I even say Klingon? - ugh I did! maybe that's too far.)
