Extend image transition #322

This PR addresses #310:

Tracking the previous state of images so we can make back transitions with less code.
Merges pipeline barriers where it's possible.

@kvark I've removed prev_state and added the second solution you proposed (manage the "previous" state by the callers/users of ImageCore) in 8b24011b2f1326cb49d72b6d47f078b05550f81a
