OS settings changes made does not retain in next boot

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Installed through windows 
2.Booted into xpud
3.In settings=> display settings  changed screen resolution. 
4.Powered OFF the OS.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Next time when booted in screen resolution should be retained to the initially 
changed value,but it was not the case it got reset to it's intial value.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

xpud-0.9.2.Installed through windows installer(.exe)

Please provide any additional information below.

Same could be the case across all setting.n

If you want to retain changes made within the OS, you need to save a backup 
before turn xPUD off and restart.
You can also set the options in the bootloader (C:\menu.lst file for windows 
installation)

I tried to save it to a file and rebooted the machine but same 
problem.Additional when i selected the save to file option and powered Off the 
machine,the shutdown process was not consistent as in it ended with some error 
messages.
