Problem

When scanning the QR Code with the Google Home app as a Matter device the app is asking that I would need a hub.

Expected behavior

No hub should be needed and Google Home connects

Actual behavior

Google home is showing that I need a hub to continue

Steps to reproduce

Install matterbridge add on, scan QR Code with a Google Home App on Android.

So you don’t have any Google Home device acting as a Google Hub? You just have your Android phone?

As described here google home needs a hub device to pair with matter.js.

Also for Google you need to have a Hub device (Android or Google Nest smart speakers/display) out of the list of supported devices to control your Matter devices.

Even if it says "Android or Google Nest Smart Speakers", it seems that android phones are not sufficient to act as a Hub themself.

Thanks, makes sense now, thought matterbridge was meant to be a hub under the hood. Gone ahead and bought a nest mini 2nd gen.

Yes, it is a bridge. Comparable to the Hue bridge. but to be used with google home, a google hub is needed. To be used with apple home, an apple hub (tv or home pod) is needed. To be used with Alexa, an echo device is needed.
