tiny-dfr sometimes doesn't start after reboot

journalctl --boot=0 -r -u tiny-dfr

after this command the touchbar starts working:

systemctl start tiny-dfr

Do you use the app shortcuts on touchbar or just media controls?

I use just media controls.

Try sudo touchbar --switch and restart

I did it and rebooted 3 times. Touchbar worked every time after a reboot. I'll be watching how this works over the next few days.

This is a known issue, so avoid force shut down. In case you have done a force shut down, boot into macOS to fix the touchbar.
