TE 21.7.23 does not keep column sizes after reboot #461

TE does not keep custom column settings, mainly column widths, after a PC reboot and reloading the saved TE layout.

Please try to check Tools -> Add-ons -> Take over folder settings -> Options -> Lock.

That does not work. The columns still resize after restarting TE or rebooting the PC.

Is there another fix for this that you recommend?

Which folder does this problem happen in?

"Take over folder settings" add-on handles only file folders by default. You should use "Folder settings" add-on instead, if you need to handle system folders and result lists too.

The column width resize problem occurs in every folder regardless of whether file folders or system folders.

Enclosed are the requested screenshots. The 1st screenshot shows the correct customized column widths. The 2nd screenshot shows the column widths after a reboot. You can see that TE did not keep the customized column width. Every folder is like that. Note that the 2 Date columns are wider and the Type column is so wide that that last column, File Extension, doesn't even show without scrolling to the right.

Also, when I adjust the column widths in a folder, TE previously would make the same column width adjustments (propagating the changes) to all folders. It no longer does that, and I must manually adjust column widths in every folder. Since TE is not even keeping the customized column widths between PC reboots, I am forced to customize each folder's column widths every time the PC reboots.

TE - Take Over Folder View Settings

  1. On your add-on settings page,
    • "Filter" is incorrect. Clear it to reset it to default.
    • Clear the tick of "Lock".
    • Click OK button to save the settings.

  1. Customize your folder view.

  2. Restart TE. TE should have kept the folder view.

  3. If you want to keep the current view against further changes, tick "Lock" on the add-on settings page.

When I checked the add-on again, the filter was as it was supposed to be,"*". I don't know why or how it had the incorrect setting before. Anyway, TE upgraded to the latest version and restarted. Sure enough, it reset all the column widths again. Ticking the Lock checkbox has no effect. This is maddening!
