menus are vertical. what's wrong?

Most software will try to put the menu in the window You can try chrome, edge, firefox, etc...

Even TE itself partly obeys this setting

TE shows a menu below the item you click, unless there is not enough screen space. The menu may or may not be within TE window. There is nothing wrong with the direction nor position. It just differs from your taste.
