Fix for abstract method errors. #31

I had the same problem as Craig Jones, but it seems his fix never got incorporated into the code, so I put a variation on his solution into this pull request.

Thanks for the patch, Brian. I've only been able to give it a quick glance but it looks like it'll work just fine. I'll incorporate it into a new release in the next day or so.
