DTS audio conversion is losing channels #8

Hi there. I'm new to github and HandBrakeBatch so I hope that I'm giving all the necessary info to explain my question.

As it can be seen on the audio info that I'll add to the end, the original file (a .mkv) had 2 audio streams. One was a 6 channel DTS. Somehow that one ended up as a single channel. Would it be possible to either allow it to pass-thru or some sort of stereo down sample?

Thank you! Pedro Fardilha

Hi Pedro,

Have you created a preset in HandBrake with the right settings? HBB should honor the settings in the HB preset.

Regarding your other query on subtitles, you can set in the preferences the option not to include any, otherwise HBB just passes the selected languages to the underlying HandBrake and let it do it's thing. I have not implemented the option to have "burnt-in" (image) subtitles, so it should be all text based – although included in the output file and not as a separate .pst file.

Best, Cesare

Hi Cesare.

I thought you would prefer me to break the 2 questions in different items. My apologies for that, I'm new around here.

Regarding the audio problem. I used a preset created with a night build of HandBrake GUI version. So as soon as I get back home I'll try again using a built-in one and I'll get back to you.

Subtitles: I'm not a native English speaker so I'm heavily dependent on subtitles to be able to understand a movie.

DVDs and Blu-Ray discs they both can have multiple subtitles (VobSubs) usually for different languages. They are indeed selectable and are indeed included with the file. BUT VobSubs are not text files, they are bitmaps (under Blu-Ray the quality of those images is better but they remain images). When using Handbrake you can chose to pass them to the output file and they will be "soft-burned" to the output file but again they will remain images. iPads, all the remain iGadgets (and iTunes at least on the Mac) cannot read properly those bitmap based subtitles and usually simply refuse to even open the file.

So, HandBrake will pretty much accept whatever subtitle track that we feed it but it will simply pass it thru, not convert them. If the original subtitle track is already a text one, it will remain in text and properly embedded in the output file. If the original track as image based (like those VobSubs) it will be embedded still as image based and will give problems under iDevices.

That's why I would like to somehow the able to say to HandBrakeBatch that if the stream format is VobSub just to skip it, otherwise to add it to the output.

(Sorry for the long post)

Thank you! Pedro

Sorry I didn't realize that you were posting this on github, too much work lately and I just hit "Reply" in Mail… You actually got it right when splitting your request by topic. Anyway, keep me posted on the test result for the problem with the audio tracks. If it does not work with the stable version of HandBrake, a sample file would really help.

Regarding the subtitles, I will close the other issue you raised and add an item in the list of requested features: as I see it this is not a problem but something to add.

Best, Cesare

Hi again.

Indeed I had a problem with my preset. My apologies for not checking that before bothering you.

Thank you for adding my subtitle idea to the request list. Indeed it's more appropriate for a wish list instead of a bug list.

Thanks and take care Pedro
