I think this is related to how newer* versions of Android handle notifications and battery saving.

* Newer than when the Tagtime app was developed many years ago now.
Just a datapoint: Android 8.0.0, TagTime 1.3.4, App Info->Notifications:Allowed, App Info->(Battery) Use details->Allow background activity: true. Even though over the course of almost four weeks, 60% of pings are OFF, and 20% of pings are empty (no tag).
I guess it's because of power saving, however, I can't find the appropriate config on my phone to adjust it.
I hadn't been using TagTime for a while, but I recently re-started on my new phone (a Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 8.0.0). Unfortunately, half the time I am not notified of pings and they get recorded as OFF. It's kind of useless because I have to go back through the list and try to remember/estimate what I was doing at the time, but that mostly defeats the purpose. So far I have not noticed any patterns as to when I do or don't get notified about pings, it seems relatively random.
