The Welcome page (in t=json mode) in tahoe sometime since 0.18.0 (sometimes?) has "connection_status" as "connected" (whereas before it was always "Connected to ...").
After a short(ish!) look it's not immediately obvious which change this is from, but I think "GBS / HTTP" related.
Ideally tahoe would present some sort of boolean in the Welcome JSON API. Fix should be straightforward for magic-folder in this case, though...
