Upgrade Java version and dependencies #41

The current used Java version is 1.6. Is it an option to update it to Java 11, or even better Java 17? This would make it also possible to update dependencies. I can give it a try to help with the modification.

Would you be willing to publish a new release to Maven Central after this update?
