The new camera (SainSmart IMX219) did not work with Pi Model 3 A+ (Raspbian Buster Lite 2020-02-13). Error:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ raspistill -o image.jpg
mmal: mmal_vc_component_enable: failed to enable component: ENOSPC
mmal: camera component couldn't be enabled
mmal: main: Failed to create camera component
mmal: Failed to run camera app. Please check for firmware updates

Tried rpi-update (stdout below) but it did not solve the problem.

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo rpi-update

Increased gpu_mem in /boot/config.txt to 144 and tried again but did not work. Then set gpu_mem to 192 and tried but did not work either.

Same error after trying the same thing on Pi 3 Model B. Tried rpi-update and changed gpu_mem=128 to gpu_mem=144 but neither worked. The camera in itself is detected by the pi.

$ vcgencmd get_camera
supported=1 detected=1
