running msfconsole on bash_kernel doesnt allow you to interact with the output Can I run a command then interact with the output or does this only need to be through the terminal ?

Yes, in general it doesn't work with anything that expects interactive input. There isn't a standard machine-readable way for processes running in a virtual terminal to say that they're waiting for input, so from the kernel perspective it's just a command that never finishes.
