When I click on the "recordings" entry at the bottom of the channel list it tries to load and then displays a simple text error that says "This plugin is not responding." I can watch any of the other channels and the configuration is setup correctly to talk to my TVH server. I have the plugin configured to use an internal IP address for the TVH server.

Setup: Synology NAS host

Plex docker container (official Plex image)
- net=host
- running as user "plex"
- no plex pass
TVH docker container (linuxserver.io image)
- port mapping 9981 and 9982
- user has proper permissions in TVH to use web interface and view/create recordings
- ATSC tuner

Hi @squirtbrnr, do you have resolution tags set in Tvheadend (HDTV/720p/SDTV)? I've already found and fixed a bug where this happens when resolution tags are not set, try the develop branch and see if this resolves the issue.

There are channel tags, but they are the default or pre-configured ones (ATSC-T Network, SDTV, and TV Channels). ~~I can't seem to find resolution tags.~~ I'll try the develop branch and see if that changes anything.

EDIT: I found in your setup guide the notes section where it talks about video resolution tags. All of my channels have the SDTV tag which is in the list in your notes for the plugin, so it should be working. I tried the develop branch but still have the error "This plugin is not responding."

Ah, I didn't read the log closely enough - there's some issue with the EPG data that Tvheadend is sending for the recording:

'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xe9 in position 56: invalid continuation byte

Try accessing http://192.168.1.95:9981/api/dvr/entry/grid_finished from a web browser and attach the output, let's see what's in that byte that is causing the problem.

I'll be adding an error check for this so the plugin will return nothing if there is an error in the recordings data instead of crashing.

Looks like it doesn't like the "," after the uuid field before the enabled field. This set of characters is around column 56. I'm assuming this is a JSON parsable string?

Thanks for the data, I've added a fallback to latin-1 (ISO-8859-1) character encoding if the default UTF-8 decoding throws an error. Try the latest develop branch and see if there are any errors in the logs this time.

Ideally, Tvheadend should be respecting the character encoding set in the network, muxes, and services and then convert the encoding as needed but it doesn't seem to work for the OTA ATSC EPG grabber. Until then, this kind of workaround will have to do.

@squirtbrnr What is your EPG source? I'm taking a look at the Tvheadend code to see where the character encodings are being set.

OTA EPG. The two EPG grabber modules that are enabled in TV Headend are “Over-the-air: EIT: EPG Grabber” and “Over-the-air: PSIP: ATSC Grabber”

@taligentx I just tried the latest develop branch and now I don’t have any channels showing. I can still access the channels from the TVH webpage and from within Kodi, but Plex reports “No channels available, verify settings”. I’ll have to check if there’s anything in the log later.

alright, I'm blaming that last try and report on user error. I must not have restarted the plex docker container after I manually installed the develop branch of the plugin. once I restarted it, I can see and play all of the channels from TVH and the recordings as well. I would say the fallback to latin-1 (ISO-8859-1) character encoding worked.
