Hey Tania, thanks for keeping it real with all of us. Special props to you for stepping outside the noise and deciding not to let _the spectacle_ influence too much of your life. We could all benefit from a little extra compassion to ourselves and responsibility for what we take in.

Your setup looks awesome by the way (vertical monitor gang, what up).

Happy new year! Wishing you a safe, fun, and resilient new year with lots more time and energy for hobbies, relationships, and learning.

Cheers 🍻

Happy 2021. Changes in our are necessary to grow!

Thank you Tania for your life and work. God bless you.

adriaanbd commented 3 years ago

I haven't read all of your articles, but the few I read were thorough and, as @stemmlerjs so well said it: real. Your style of writing radiates sincerity, humbleness and curiosity. I might be biased due to the few articles I read on your list but I also thought "Understanding the Event Loop, Callbacks, Promises, and Async/Await in JavaScript" was your best technical piece. I also liked "Everyday Systems" very much.

Back in 2019 I was really struggling with my career and wanted to switch to coding (from Design). Some how I stumbled upon your blog post where you discussed about your journey from being a chef to a coder. That really inspired me. I think these closer to reality articles of your are kind of motivation booster. Happy new year keep doing the good work

Happy 2021 to all! Nice update and links! Best wishes in the new year!

This resonates so much to me. I've also been battling digital noise due to increased vacant time and exposure to internet and it's a hard journey. Thanks for sharing.

infraredmosquito commented 3 years ago

Thank you so much for your time and hard work to help others! You are an inspiration!

hitsrich commented 3 years ago

Thankyou for guidance. It helped me personally a lot and very inspired by your hard work and passion. I kind of liked the office chair.. :) What chair is that?

SixStringsCoder commented 3 years ago

I enjoyed the article, as usual. It was such a relief to read this, "Data structures and algorithms have been on the back burner for a few years now,". So you are proof that you can be a senior dev and not be a virtuoso in algos, even though the interviews torture us with these!

Your post is a nice conclusion to the end of the year with some practical optimism for the new year.

I always enjoy reading and applying your tutorials.

Happy New Year!

Super glad I've discovered your blog a year or two ago. You're quite the inspiration - thanks a lot and stay well! :100::rocket:

Thankful to have stumbled across your blog earlier this year. You are a talented writer, and your articles have helped me to understand concepts that I previously could only look at the screen and muster my best befuddled uhhhh. Wishing you all the best in 2021!

I hope another positive comment will help outweigh the negative ones! I just want to say you are an inspiration to me and I wish you an excellent new year!

Hi Tania, thanks for all your time creating content, your articles have really helped me. I really like the way you write. It is good to read that you have spent more time on the things you like.

I hope you have a good year and, again, thank you. 🙂

Happy new year! You're not alone with burnout in 2020, glad to hear your thoughts around the subject. All the best for 2021!

nehasha commented 3 years ago

Very inspiring article! Keep writing more and sharing your views on various subjects 👍

tribbletron commented 3 years ago

I remember I first found you via twitter, before I started my IT career. Back then, I hadn't figured out where or how I'll fit in the tech world. You put out a lot of content; I wanted to support people who were self-taught and shared what they knew. But I always like you more as a person with a life and other interests. I follow your newsletter to hear about you. Nowadays, the tech stuff barely registers. My sharpest memories of you was still the day you tweeted about Animorphs. And when I tried the Konami code on your site. So right now, I'm just happy to see you take up knitting. And taking space to breathe a little. - Jenny

Do u know anyother way to ADD COMMENTS to A BLOG on NEXT NETLIFY CMS , i m thinking of using STATICMAN, apart from that can u suggest any traditional way

taniarascia commented 3 years ago

@tribbletron Ha, that's awesome! I don't know what it is with me and Animorphs. Probably because I discovered them both around the same time in 1997 or so. Yes, I'm working on my third scarf now, I based the style on the retro Sony blank VHS sleeve design...

ericjbible commented 3 years ago

I appreciate this sentiment so much. I’m just getting started in tech and dev but I’m no stranger to burnout in many forms: work, socially, politically etc. I even had to take a hiatus to balance priorities so you’re not alone. Thank you for your honesty, create what you can, when you can and keep living life! Thanks Tania!

Hi Tania, Thanks for all your hard work, I used it to teach my students in junior college. May I wish you the best, and take good care of you. Jean-François from Montréal

bataa21 commented 3 years ago

Thank you for the update and :) New 2021! You have been teaching me a lot!

Grey is such a Developer colour for a scarf!

I use Bear on my iPad for note taking as well and agree it is pretty awesome. I like the ability to create markdown and embed other media assets etc including your sketches. I think you can select to export this in various formats including html an d pdf etc but this requires a pro licence. There does not appear to be an option to export or sync with github though.

I think Quentin Crisp was right: the very purpose of existence is to reconcile the glowing opinion we hold of ourselves with the appalling things that other people think about us. I wouldn’t sweat it too much, though. I never met you but you’ve helped a lot of people.

JestVA commented 3 years ago

Good job Tania putting all of this behind you / in perspective / give yourself a breather. Also very mindful lately about how all the dots connect / how living a happy dev life is important and how we can avoid burnout. I am discovering stuff, and taking things one day at a time. I also created this support group called DevUnwind which runs as a Gitter chatroom: https://gitter.im/DevUnwind/community

Just stumbled across your site googling for info on bash shell scripting! Nice site! I'm going to come back and read! I hope 2021 treats you well!

Stumbled on your blog. Great informative articles to learn from!

ghost commented 3 years ago

Twitter, for the most part, is overwhelming to me, so I decided to leave it long ago, although I'm always tempted to come back, and I do, because I feel I'm losing all the cool information, when, for the 1000th time, I see all the politics bickering and useless stuff I deactivate my account again and again.

travissanon commented 3 years ago

@nayanef I found that doing these 2 things helped minimize any political garbage from showing up for me on Twitter:

  1. Installing a browser extension called "Minimal Twitter". It removes the explore/trending sidebar, hides promoted posts, and cleans up the site a bit to make it distraction free.
  2. Unfollowing or muting anyone who talks about politics. I also make a conscious effort to look at someone's Tweet history before following them.

Hope this helps 🤙

ghost commented 3 years ago

@travissanon thanks for the tip, I think I'll try to use this extension.
