Did I grab the wrong clone? Too alpha?

When you cloned the repo and installed it into blender, did you use the master branch or the 2.79 branch?

The master is build for blender 2.8x while the 2.79 branch is for blender 2.79.

Did you install Blender from Steam by any chance?
