Fred Davey, GNS Emeritus, is going to Apia on 23 March 2018. He asked if there is anything he could do. Dropped him email 6 Mar 2018. Provide encouragement to observers & general overview of observatory environment.
Grant visited Apia 19-22 March 2018.
Report & photos are in API folder.
Software problem with GSM solved for now: partly upgraded, but GPS unit is thinking its a random day in 2015 (troubles with getting the right software from GEM System) - Mark takes the day and year from the PC at Apia and the seconds from the upgraded GSM. The API gsm is no longer setting back to 5-second factory default recordings, so re-setting by Mark is no longer required! :-)
NEXT:
prepare a RaspberryPI to display observatory data on the newly installed monitor in the API office.
organise a GSM90F1 with internal GPS unit to exchange with the one at Apia
[x] General check-up on equipment.
[x] Upgrade software of GSM proton - I've got firmware upgrade instructions from Mike Wilson, GemSys 13 Oct 2016.
[x] Install heater control – Daniel Whitaker has all the equipment ready.
[x] Repair battery back-up system: regulator/charging failed.
[x] Activity at night? Frequent 0.3 nT jump from 9:15 to 16:15 UTC.
[x] Install PC monitor for data display (automatically updating Edinburgh GIN page) using a RaspberryPi? - NOT NOW. Person at Potsdam might be able to help with providing the RaspberryPI plus progs. Maybe already bring the monitor to Apia though?
[x] Touch base with observers. Katie Pogie will do handover to Darren at the end of March / beginning of April.
