Google Updater Pops up every hour #25

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Install the updater.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Not sure what the expected is, but every hour it pops up to ask for my admin
pass to make changes.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Mac OS 10.6.4, Updater 1.0.7

The installer came to my system when I tried to install a version of
PiccasaWebUploader that wouldn't work (produced an unexpected error) but the
updater got stuck there (and was already asking for the pass). I trolled around
the forums and found a link to another download that would work but nothing
seems changed on the updater side.

On a move of desperation I dragged the thing to the trash, but it didnt help as
well. It still pops up!

For the the record the updater does not recognize other google products like
piccasa, google earth or chrome. It only sees itself and the web uploader. (but
not sure if it should thus not posting as a bug!). Also when I hit explore it
says "you downloaded all we have to offer".

Suggestion:
Why make an updater if I cannot manage the updates. Rename it to "product
manager" so it better reflects its use!

Sorry, I'm not checking the email box messages from here go to often enough.

See if you have the files /Library/Caches/Google/SoftwareUpdates/manifest.xml
and/or ~//Library/Caches/Google/SoftwareUpdates/manifest.xml . If they exist,
delete them, and log out / back in. The 1.0.7 Updater should remove itself
then.

Please drop a line back here if you do have those files.

Thanks!

I had the same issue today (sep 2012) !! So I went into /caches and deleted the
googleupdater FOLDER I found in there (I did not find a manifest.xml), things
must have changed in the past year..
