It doesn't surprise me too much that there is not a lot out there on this. Here are a few that you may have overlooked. Most of them look at mobility at a much finer scale (e.g., within a city), but still they may be useful to look at:

As for data collection, we will need to get creative here. For example, we can focus on users with geolocated tweets. If we see that all tweets up to time T were in country X, then all tweets after time T were in country Y, then we might be able to infer that they have relocated, even if temporarily.
