I do not like this idea, and it should not really be necessary.
Would you really want to store your dirty water (from dishes, washing hands, etc) in a container meant for drinking water? It would not be suitable for drinking water again unless washed really, really well. It's worse for solid waste. Food storage needs racks and climate control to keep the food fresh and accessible which is not needed for waste. Waste is not completely solid and it smells, so it will need a sealed container which is not necessary for food. Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide might work, but the gases have different properties such that Carbon Dioxide liquefies at room temperature before reaching the pressures at which you can compress Oxygen.
It should not be necessary if you have recycling parts on your ship. At most, you should only need to store a day or two of each waste resource -- and that is only because of the way the mod works (things can get out of sync when "catching up" after being gone for a long time). Filling up on waste resources does not cause anything bad to happen, the excess is just dumped.
I propose to implement a universal capacity by type: Liquid (Water / Waste Water), gas (Oxygen / Carbon Dioxide), solid (Food / Waste).
This will allow more efficient use of space in the rocket with space station supplies for example.
For example at the station we carry water tank, pumps it into storage station, and the vacant seat of the pumped waste water.
Capacity can not simultaneously contain both water and waste water. For more realism, you can prevent pump water into the container in which was a waste of water (permanently switch capacity in the waste water type)
