Hi Nikhil,
I was thinking of comparing this data set with data on average income per country. So focusing on "good days" in a country vs their average income and the correlation. What do you think?
Hi Tatiana!
This would be interesting data to compare, and I love where your head is at in terms of trying to mash together two datasets. However I don't think the results would really tell us much. Understanding correlation like this is tricky and requires some more advanced statistics. Even if they are correlated, we wouldn't know if one causes the other, as there are many possible factors.
Luckily happiness and well-being research is a very active field. If you're interested in this topic, I might suggest looking for some studies that have done the difficult data work for you. For example, I think there would certainly be some interesting nuggets of stories from the latest World Happiness Report, which has a lot to say about COVID and its effect on well-being. There is also lots of other research on this, specifically on the relationship between income and well-being, so tracking down an existing dataset on that could be a good place to start!
Hi Nikhil,
I've been looking at the World Happiness Report, and there's some data on if people in different countries are following covid rules or if they believe other people in their country are following guidelines. I think it would be an interesting story to show how much people have faith in their country following COVID guidelines and comparing the different countries and how hard they've been hit by COVID. Let me know what you think!
Hey again. Yeah I think this idea is great! I'd like to hear if you have any story to tell about the data, as opposed to just presenting it and asking some questions. What are the key numbers in this dataset in your mind? And can you tell readers to help them make sense of it? One way to think of it is: If someone were to mention your article in casual conversation, how would they summarize it in just a sentence or two? This is a very topical issue obviously, so perhaps some takeaway about what the data says on how we are or should be acting with the Delta variant, COVID in general, etc. But, any kind of story you want to tell or that jumps out at you!

Cool data source here! But I'd to make sure that you find a story here, and aren't just presenting a collection of numbers. Pew has come up with their own conclusion, as you can glean from the headline: "‘Particularly good days’ are common in Africa, Latin America and the U.S." That is somewhat boring, but it is at least some kind of takeaway that helps readers interpret the data.
So, what is your interpretation? What interesting and meaningful truth about the world—even if relatively minor—can we glean from looking at these numbers? What are some of the big outliers or trends that jump out to you? What question(s) has this data helped you to answer for yourself?
