Looked at the logs again and totally missed the fact that the jail name is included in the logs - so I switched the way the fail2ban component works - 100% log parsing instead of using fail2ban-client. Will probably look into doing more with the available information before this gets merged - I have dates, times, and IP addresses for every ban and unban, so if we can think of anything useful to do with that information then it's there.
My first thought, like I mentioned before, is to do something like "bans in last X days" or something.
