What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Update to GrowlTunes 3.0 from an older version with existing preferences.
2. Notice no notifications are being shown.
3. Search the web for an answer.
4. In GrowlTunes preferences, discover the "Media Type" pane where you can/must
tick different media types ("Music", Music Video" etc.) to enable notifications.
5. Notice that notifications being shown don't include any info.
6. Discover you need to drag some labels around in the same "Media Type" pane
for song info to display in notifications. I didn't bother but resorted to the
workaround of deleting old preferences (see below).
7. Find out the issue has been reported before:
https://twitter.com/deliriousguy/status/381063729699254274.
What is the expected output?
Notifications working out of the box when updating from an older version.
What do you see instead?
Nothing
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Growl 2.1.3, GrowlTunes 3.0, OS X 10.9
- Workaround -
Deleting two preference files in
~/Library/Containers/com.growl.GrowlTunes/Data/Library,
com.growl.GrowlTunes.plist and com.growl.GrowlTunes.plist.95Kk59R, fixed the
issue for me.
I would argue most users won't try troubleshooting preferences and if they'd
try they'd look in ~/Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Preferences as
they are accustomed to. Apparently, the ~/Library/Containers location is due to
sandboxing
(https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Security/Conceptual/AppSa
ndboxDesignGuide/MigratingALegacyApp/MigratingAnAppToASandbox.html).
