Order of buttons #485

Main menu > Groups > Search: Modal box has buttons "Cancel" then "Go". In a group, click add members: Modal box has buttons "Add to group" then "Cancel". Inconsistent ordering. What's the best/correct/standard order for these? Might depend on whether you ask Steve Jobs or Bill gates.

My UX tutor always said:

For mainly Mac users put ok/save last (so the form ends logically)
For mainly Windows users put ok/save first (so that the button most used is read and "tabbed to" first)

Like you said - depends on whether you ask Steve Jobs or Bill Gates.

My preference - OK first.
