I was unable to test the logging with logstash and elasticsearch/kibana. It is activated with spring-profile "elk". I tried to follow this tutorial as much as possible.

The Log4j2 appender works: There is a TODO-Task in the class. Otherwise Logstash cannot recognize the server.

log4j aggregation.. sounds good so far
log4j2 with plugin
log4j shorthand xml configuration

actually works now using a pattern-layout. only problem are multi-line errors. this needs to be configured/changed!

won't fix this. logging (and monitoring) will be solved with cassandra/meteor.
