Offline note from @timrobertson100 suggested this controlled vocabulary has applicability to other uses beyond this proposed extension to DwC-A such as identifier types for occurrence records themselves. However, if we were to expand the scope of this vocabulary to include terms representative of entities other than people and organizations, we risk polluting with non-sensible values (eg an occurrence identifier for a person & vice versa).

I would propose to change this to agentIdentifierType, to distinguish that these are identifiers for agents (the things that act) as opposed to identifiers for entities (the things/data that are acted upon like specimen or occurrence records). This keeps the controlled vocab manageable. It also makes sense if you look at the TDWG-RDA attribution metadata recommendation https://www.rd-alliance.org/system/files/RDA_TDWG_Attribution_Metadata_Recommendation.pdf

In DiSSCo I identified these agents so far: Collection holding institution Collection research facility National consortium
DiSSCo consortium Instrument Software Person Service

So it is a bit wider than only people and organisations: I would also include instruments, software and services if there are recommended identifiers for that.

@wouteraddink Excellent suggestion! I'll edit the property in this ticket right now and same with the draft extension.

Made term optional to to align with identifier, also made optional.
