A user submitted this information via the Darwin Core Hour webform: Timestamp: 3/27/2021 12:05:45 Please provide a topic of interest: What is the best way to identify a taxonomic authority as being where a scientificName is resolved? For instance in the OBIS community scientificName is paired with scientificNameID to identify WoRMS as the taxonomic authority associated with the scientificName. Questions have come up about possibly using taxonID paired with nameAccordingTo or nomenclaturalCode, are those more appropriate? How are others in the community doing it? Are you capable of and interested in participating: No Who else would you recommend to participate in the presentation: What resources can you point to: Your name: Abby Benson Your email: albenson@usgs.gov Your GitHub username: @albenson-usgs

Hi Abby,

nameAccordingTo and nameAccordingToID is indeed meant for this.

Notice that a proper scientificNameID is a GUID & PID, this allows you in fact to already define the taxonomic authority without any additional fields. As WoRMS uses LSIDs, this perfectly fulfills the role of implicitly defining the taxonomic authority.
