The MeasurementOrFact class supports values, units, accuracies and other metadata about measurements or facts. Given the nature of measurements (potentially many per core record) they do not fit in Simple Darwin Core, which you can think of as Darwin Core in a single spreadsheet with no fields repeated. Because of this potentially one-to-many relationship between a core record and measurements or facts, the best way to include them is through the Darwin Core Measurement Or Facts extension. Or, if that extension is insufficient for a particular need, the Extended Measurement Or Facts extension may be more suitable.
You may check the relationship between Simple Darwin Core and Extensions in the documentation, Wiki page: Simple Darwin Core, in particular under the subtitles Simple Darwin Core vs. Extensions and Darwin Core Extensions - just a brief intro. In there you'll find a brief example for MeasurementOrFacts.
Hello @timrobertson100 @mdoering
I am sure we index datasets having measurements and facts. But I am afraid we do not allow searching for them at this stage. They should be exposed in the API and portal when showing the verbatim details. I need to hunt for an example records
Thanks @mdoering I look fwd to examples :-)
@tucotuco @peterdesmet @garymotz @ekrimmel given questions at recent dch 7 seems reasonable that a webinar (or two?) be done on the measurementOrFact extension (with concrete examples - such as those provided by @mdoering above). Same situation for ResourceRelationship and DynamicProperties. All could benefit from more examples - easy to see / find / mull over.
