Decommissioning old Typo3 / tdwgng system #92

Open MattBlissett opened 4 years ago

We are still running the old Typo3-based website on the server tdwgng.tdwg.org. It's accessible at old.tdwg.org (and indexed in Google, but I'm not going to encourage Google further by making that a link).

Is any of the content still required? I've gone through all the issues, and labelled those that refer to pages only on the old website: https://github.com/tdwg/infrastructure/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3Atdwgng

We're not keeping Typo3 up-to-date, so it's important that we work towards its retirement.

I think I have most useful material off of that site, but I have appreciated having access to the old website. In fact, I just looked material on the old site last week.

Is there an easy way to make the content viewable to people like me, with the need to look at historical content, without making it visible to others or vulnerable to hackers? Could I/we put it in some sort of container that I could run on my laptop as needed?

The VM image could probably be exported (although it's likely to be a bit large).

I started the issue because I was looking at the TDWG servers after the work on rs.tdwg.org, but it's not urgent. It's no problem to run this service for 6 more months or so.

@stanblum if you can get into the old Typo3 system, is there a way to find out the identities of the review manager for the GUID AS? See this issue. If this information is unknowable, then I'll close the issue and forget about it. I think the answer is in that old OJS system, but I don't know if it exists anywhere anymore.

I'll have to dig. I don't know if that ever went through the review processes.

I'm pretty sure that it did. I remember that there was a request for comments because I submitted some. I was thinking that Kevin Richards was the person who sent me a response, but he was the author, not the review manager.

I'll make a quick look-through of the tdwg-content archives and my email to see if I can find anything.

I know that when I was the AC review manager I was supposed to put all of the records of the review in the OJS system, but I don't know what ever happened to those data.

OK, I found this: http://lists.tdwg.org/pipermail/tdwg-content/2009-November/000255.html , which would imply that Ben Richardson was the review manager (although that's not specifically stated). Does that ring a bell?

I also checked my email and I see that I have one from Ben Richardson on 2010-09-02 acknowledging my comments and saying that the final draft would be under review. So that also seems to indicate that he was the review manager.

I have emailed Ben and he confirmed that he was the review manager. So this question had been answered.
