Job Responsibilities and Duties
As a software safety engineer, you arrive each day ready to use your skills to prevent and solve problems. While it's true that you spend a lot of time sitting at a computer, you don't spend all your time working alone. You get to spend a lot of time collaborating with others as part of a team.
You perform safety evaluations of software systems and development programs. You prepare documentation including the hazard analyses and Safety Assessment Report (SAR) for compliance with MIL-STD 882E, AMCOM 385-17, and other software safety requirements. You review software source code and code generation processes and build procedures for compliance.
You review and evaluate the Technical Data Package (TDP) and presentations for the Army Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP). You participate in IPTs, as well as software, code, test plan, test report and problem report reviews.
You get to be both logical and creative. You love that there is always something new to learn! You get great satisfaction out of performing such an important role to the best of your ability.
Qualifications
BS in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
Applicable software design engineering experience
Experience with one or more of the following software languages: C, C++, C#, Ada, Fortran
Familiarity with one or more System Safety and Software Safety requirements: DO-178C, DO-278, and/or DO-254
Ability to express engineering findings verbally and in written technical reports
US Citizenship is required and you must be eligible for DoD security clearance
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with a typical schedule of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. We offer a flexible and optional 9/80 work schedule which allows employees to work nine-hour days Monday-Thursday and take every other Friday off.
