Description

Hexagon’s Geospatial division is seeking a talented and experienced database developer to design, develop and support database components for sophisticated geospatial-based transportation solutions. You will be involved in the design, planning, implementation, deployment, and maintenance of software projects for customers. You will interact directly with key stakeholders, including project managers, technical leads, web developers and testers at Hexagon, and IT staff at customer sites. Databases may be on-premise or cloud-hosted in platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, maintain & support data access and transformation processes (Tables, Views, Stored Procedures, Triggers, Scheduled Jobs, CSV/XML/JSON data files)
Analyze database performance and optimize SQL statements
Contribute to project lifecycle including understanding of client requirements, assessing feasibility, providing development effort estimates, technical data access & transformation process designs, development and testing of deliverables
Participate in project meetings, provide input to project plans, and provide progress status updates and escalations to Project Managers
Produce and maintain technical documentation to enable ongoing support of solutions
Collaborate with IT & Operations team members to – resolve reported issues, understand change requests, ensure proper testing of deliverables and provide end-user training & support
Establish and promote database best practices for other project team members.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
5+ years of Oracle (11g or higher) database development experience working on complex projects, including use of Oracle Locator/Spatial
Expertise with PL/SQL and the development of stored procedures, packages, views, and triggers
Experience in troubleshooting production issues such as slow queries, deadlocks and waits
Experience working in a Windows client-server environment

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of other spatial databases (PostGres, Microsoft SQL Server) is a plus
Knowledge of at least one web-based programming such as .NET is a plus
Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Strong oral and written communication skills
Familiarity working in an agile/Scrum development environment is a plus.
