Looks like @memononen did a great job building out a lot of features for a Paper.js editor. So it seems from the issue queue, work was halted as problems mounted from performance.
Of course this is a 2 year old version of the library, it's quite possible it's improved since then, not to mention the Paper.js project lead has expressed desire to see something like this come to fruition which can technically steer development towards performance improvements.
