Restore wiped all data from secondary HDD #193

I had to do a restore from a previous image yesterday. I have Timeshift backing up the images into my second physical drive. When I did the restore I had wiped all my data, to include my VERY important data from the second drive. It also left no other backup images. It was if I had taken a snapshot of a fresh copy of the OS and and restored that.

Right now I have isolated the secondary drive (unplugged SATA and power cables) and am reformatting primary drive to reinstall a fresh copy of my OS.

Was the drive mounted outside of /mnt and /media?

Please send me the following:

  1. exclude.list file and restore.log file - from the snapshot folder of snapshot that was restored
  2. log file from /var/log/timeshift

I do not believe the drive was mounted outside of /mnt or /media. I am sending it to a local shop for data recovery tomorrow (Monday). I was able to pull pictures and about 100 pdf's but there is still a lot more. I used TestDisk and PhotoRec because they only read what's on there and do not alter the disc (from what I read). TestDisk was able to pull all my folders but they were all empty.

Yesterday I went ahead and formatted the main drive and reinstalled a fresh copy of Mint. The only Timeshift log I have is from last night.

If this guy can pull all the data from my drive, I should be able to send you the exclude.list and restore.log if nothing else.

Thank you for reaching out to help figure out what went wrong. When I get the drive back I will send you what I have.

Thanks,

Travis
